I made it into this week's Nerd of The Week video on the Nerdcore Rising website!

I am honored, to be even loosely connected to this interesting group of Second Life 'nerds'.
I have been having a blast being involved in The L Word Island project in Second Life. It is a really interesting project that I think is the perfect proof of concept for how an entertainment property can work with a virtual space to build and support actual community. To be fair, The L Word is a special case, and not many television programs can boast such a lively, eager ( and downright demanding!) fanbase.
This is a photo taken at a Starlette Sunday party held in The L Word Island in Second Life.
You can see the avatars getting down (one of the most popular activities in SL is dancing, because it's actually really funny to watch) in front of a video screen with a live feed from a parallel real live dance party

And this is a picture of Wanda, the super cool host of the Starlette Sunday party dancing for the friends in SL at Orchid Lounge in NYC.
I have been very impressed with the entire Electric Sheep Company crew but the ladies of Electric Sheep really, rocked this special event. With camcorders and cables and laptops in tow and looking totally glamorous, in their classy evening ware, they managed to keep a live feed running from the club into SL 'till the wee hours of the morning.
Look at them computing away!
The L Word community in Second Life requested a pole.. that's right, a pole for dancing on.
Who are we not to give it to them?
And here we have a kind of embarrassing photo of my avatar doing a rather provocative dance on said pole.
I really didn't think I would actually have such feelings for my 'self-as-avatar'; but someone tipped me so, hey!
These are the kind of moments where I am proud of my current gig.
Here are a few more snapshots from a Saturday night at the SL L Word dance club. It's a pretty hoppin' place. Mari met me there, we were talking on the phone the entire time and cracking up! Very Interactive TV-type experience.
Today was the grand opening of The L Word in Second Life. This is a sort of sim-type game where a lot of people can log-on at once and kind of just hang out in an online environment. The L Word has a great orientation area where people land when they first sign up, it makes it very easy to learn how to walk around, talk to people and even change your clothes. I had a blast helping people get started, and talking with some of my Showtime coworkers via our avatars. It was all very funny. I can't wait to see how this space develops as it gets more populated and promoted. One my missions is to get people to run their own events in the space, help people use it as a forum for their own ideas, art, music so that it becomes more than just a marketing tool, but an actually useful space for people.
