Broccoli is clearly on the collective Internet brain these days!
OR could just be a brilliant marketing campaign from The Broccoli People.
(But I tend to see everything as a marketing campaign - I am THAT committed to my work.)
Personally, I always thought it was weird that kids should automatically hate broccoli.
First of of all, let's face it, Broccoli is damn cute. It looks like little smurf tree!
And all it takes is a light steaming and a little salted butter to make Broccoli totally edible.
Not to mention it goes well with melted cheese, or some of that tahini sauce we used to go nutz on when I was vegan.
Some people even eat it RAW without any hesitation! in public!
I have seen the B pop up on Icanhazcheezburger, Buzzfeed, W00t, Cute Overload in recent months, even NYMag gave Broccoli some love!
Here's a few highlights of the Broco-love-fest that seems to be spreading.
And a search on Cafe Press brings up a lot of fun designs, the majority of which are strongly PRO Broccoli.
Broccoli is also very musical and not necessarily in the way that beans are (I know, that fruit/toot saying can apply to our friend the broccoli but this is different):
This week Not Eating Out in NY posted a nice Broccoli + Bacon idea which is sure to tempt even the most reluctant Broccoli eater.
I don't know if this is actually written by Anthony Bourdain, as is credited, but this critique of current Food Network tv chefs had me rolling on the floor. Link
Epicurious the food site has launched a docu-reality show following students during their first year at the Culinary Institute of America (the other CIA). This might be the the first produced for mainstream-web-show-cross-promotion that I actually like. There will be regular episodic videos about the general experience of going to the CIA as well as 4 individual students text/video blogs. They are fully RSS-ified with comments and its all very simple and classy looking. The advertising is already working on me..I mean don't you want to take a class called 'Contemporary Cakes and Classical Desserts'!!??
Check it out here!
If you could open a restaurant, any kind you want, what would it look like and what's on the menu?
Submitted by A is for Amy.
I would make an exact recreation the Celebrity Room, my favorite restaurant growing up in Richmond, VA. It was about 20 min from our house which was really far out in the country to me, so it was a really big deal to get to go there. The place is/was huge, first you come into an entryway that is like curvy and mirrored in gold and there's really big fishtanks. Then you get seated either at a celebrity shrine booth in the main dining area or in the Elvis room, the Marilyn room or if you're feeling crazy you can go in the back area which had a huge stage/dance floor with country music karaoke, the very serious kind where they have tambouirines for the audience to play on certain songs and they always end the night with Amazing Grace. Also, I forgot to mention that it's decorated for christmas all year 'round. holla!
I would have better food, but it would still be italian. I would still serve the frozen icee for desert only it would come in gourmet flavors.
Thanks to Noah for sending me this link
It deeply resonates with how I feel about making videos online videos, right now, and reminded me very much of my experience working in the digital media dept at NBC Universal.
This 'viral' campaign is actually vomit inducing.
And here is how we make those disgusting orange crackers - it's more disgusting than you imagined!
but not disgusting enough to be 'viral'
however, I am pretty sure that, after you eat enough of them you will most certainly have 'Lance in Your Pants!'
Now that would be a video!
