I am in the midst of recruiting teams for the NYC 48 Hour Film Project, so if you are in the NYC area and you need something REALLY FUN and creative and exciting to do this summer...
The 48 Hour Film Project is a wild and reckless weekend of film making mania, where teams of renegade filmmakers create short films at break-neck speed, compete for prizes and a chance to participate in a national film making showdown!
This is the 7th year and with 50 participating cities in the US and 11 abroad there will probably be over a thousand teams participating! Winners from each city will compete in an international 48 Hour Film making Showdown and also get invited to participate in some thematic events around the country for additional fame, fortune and fun!
Now, you may be asking yourself, what kind of films get made in 48 hours? Well all you have to do is type in '48 Hour Film' to YouTube and you will find some gems like:
All the films will eventually be archived on www.48.tv
They'll be there this Sunday, as well, so anyone in NYC must go!!!!
What other band can promise accordion, theremin and singing saw, bearded-lady, 80's rock fest, slumber-party fun?!
I have been having a blast being involved in The L Word Island project in Second Life. It is a really interesting project that I think is the perfect proof of concept for how an entertainment property can work with a virtual space to build and support actual community. To be fair, The L Word is a special case, and not many television programs can boast such a lively, eager ( and downright demanding!) fanbase.
This is a photo taken at a Starlette Sunday party held in The L Word Island in Second Life.
You can see the avatars getting down (one of the most popular activities in SL is dancing, because it's actually really funny to watch) in front of a video screen with a live feed from a parallel real live dance party

And this is a picture of Wanda, the super cool host of the Starlette Sunday party dancing for the friends in SL at Orchid Lounge in NYC.
I have been very impressed with the entire Electric Sheep Company crew but the ladies of Electric Sheep really, rocked this special event. With camcorders and cables and laptops in tow and looking totally glamorous, in their classy evening ware, they managed to keep a live feed running from the club into SL 'till the wee hours of the morning.
Look at them computing away!
Last night's fete in BFE Brooky was well worth the trip to celebrate The End of The Show with other fans. What a bunch of terrificly fun freaks. I had a great time.
Much gratitude to Master Kontrol for hosting and for Rachel for being the photographer for the night.
Note tiny head of actual Ze Frank peeking out in upper 3rd, direct center of this group shot.
I particularly like that 2 random chicks (one of which would be me) independently of each other (?) , and at opposite sides of the group decided to do the Gene Simmons face/hand thing. Freaks.
