Demand better.
I spend a lot of time on blogs and websites that cover mainstream entertainment, these days, and while there is no shortage of smart writing (about Heros) or critical thinking (about Project Runway) out there in TV blog land,
I was surprised to find a passionate call to action from Jacki Garfinkle of MediaVillage, writen after watching Richard Engel's War Zone Diary . She writes:
No matter what party you support or what your political beliefs are, we need the news to let us know what's going on in our government. News organizations will never have the opportunity to carry out their function if we as viewers show them that all we're interested in is entertainment. Reporters are risking their lives to bring us the news; let's show them that means something. So, I not only ask advertisers to do their part, but I ask all viewers to turn off the TV the next time CNN, MSNBC, or Fox News talk about the latest celebrity divorce. Demand better. Demand the news.
word.
With all these smart saavy voices blogging away about TV, I hope we will see more entertainment media writers stepping up and demanding better.
I'd like to see a 'Demand Better. Demand News.' blog campaign....hmmm...
Something for TV bloggers help spread the word that, while they
like being entertained and demand to be entertained well and respect
good entertainment they are smart enough to expect actual news and
respect those who risk life and limb to bring real news to us!
This is a critical time, but there are a lot of newly empowered voices in all industries who I hope will feel as inspired and enabled as Jacki to make such statments.
I could make a badge with a 'NO Lindsay Lohan in my news' image on it?
Need to percolate but yes. there is something there.

'NO Lindsay Lohan in my news'
I'd suggest that as a banner, but that would mean your visitors - as well as yourself - would be seeing her every day. And that would be too depressing. As well as incredibly dull.
It's a hopeless battle. People love accidents.
